Pod is Mal Webb’s 5th solo album. In between his work recording and perform-ing with other artists, such as Formidable Vegetable, Spoonbill, Penelope Swales, Ungus Ungus Ungus and more, Mal Webb writes, performs and records his own songs.

Playing guitar, bass, slide trumpet, trombone, mbira, piano, me-lodica, percussion and beatboxing, plus all manner of extended vocal techniques (such as sideways yodeling!), alongside Kylie Morrigan’s violin and voice, his ar-rangements range from elaborate close harmony to elegant simplicity.

Then add to that the special guests, singer Aurora Kurth and legendary Irish guitarist Jim Murray… playing button accordion! It’s all real instruments doing, at times, some rather unreal stuff. The songs on Pod combine Mal’s exploration of music theory (Coltrane changes, Risset rhythms, etc.) to frame his lyrical dwellings, heartfelt delving into the issues that fire him up, from the socio-environmental to the geeky/nerdy to some straight up love songs!
