The Sd.Kfz.251 troop transport half-track was used by the Wehrmacht on all fronts, and on a large scale, during the Second World War. Powered by a Maybach 6-cylinder petrol engine, it was able to reach 55 km/h even on difficult terrain. It was mainly used as an infantry fighting vehicle but, during the war, numerous versions were produced to satisfy increasingly specialized operational tasks . The half-track Sd.Kfz. 251/10 ( Schtzenpanzerwagen ), used as a platoon command vehicle, was armed with a 37mm PaK 36 anti-tank gun with protective shield. Production was carried out until 1942 when the cannon was no longer effective against the majorityevolved and armored opponent tanks.
